Russian peacekeepers arrive in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh

A contingent of Russian peacekeepers went to Nagorno-Karabakh after the conclusion of a truce between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The peacekeepers will monitor compliance with the terms of the treaty and the exchange of prisoners of war. They will be placed along the Lachin corridor, which connects Armenia with the capital of Karabakh, Stepanakert.

The entry of the Russian military was one of the 11 points of the agreement between Baku and Yerevan.

The peacekeepers will remain in Nagorno-Karabakh for five years, and their term of service will be extended by "five years" as long as Azerbaijan and Armenia do not object to this.
