Russian military police reinforcements arriving at Qamishli, Syria

Earlier, Russia officially announced the deployment of joint Russian-Syrian posts in the Ain Issa area, for the first time this became known on December 28th, 2020. On Friday, January 15th, 2021, the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces began a transfer of forces to strengthen the Russian military police in the provinces of Raqqa and Al-Hasakah, where the situation has recently escalated in connection with the conflict between the Turks and Kurds.

According to a source from the Syrian security forces, the first flight of the Il-76 arrived in Qamishli, and in the coming days, positions will be strengthened in the Tal-Tamr region and in some other settlements along the M4 highway, in the Qamishli-Aleppo section. The reinforcement from the military police, which arrives in the provinces of Raqqa and Al-Hasakah, has received special training and will ensure the further safe movement of civilians and goods along the highway.

Reminder - since December 20th, 2020, fierce fighting broke out between Turkish-backed militants and Kurdish militants in the area of Operation "Peace Spring", north of the city of Ain Issa, they lasted until December 28th. Then, after the emergency strengthening of the joint Russian-Syrian posts and by agreement between the parties, the situation stabilized. Civilian traffic resumed between Al-Hasakah and Aleppo provinces.

Since the beginning of January, the Russian military police have accompanied, according to various estimates, over 1,500 vehicles and more than 3,500 civilians on the M4 highway

A large-scale strengthening of the Russian military police in the area from Tal Tamr to Ain Issa will help maintain stability in the region.
